On a recent vacation, my husband Steve and I enjoyed a road trip down Highway 101 along the Oregon Coast. We stopped and stayed at three of the best Oregon hotels on the coast in the small coastal towns of Port Orford, Gold Beach, and Brookings. Each of the three seaside Oregon hotels offered experiences and accommodations that evoked strong emotions and presented exciting vibes. Follow me on our travel adventures to these three top Oregon coast hotels.

WildSpring Guest Habitat Resort, situated on five acres of ocean bluff, boasts a quiet forest filled with lush trees, playful and thought-provoking sculptures, and an eco-friendly environment that nurtures all five senses. Endicott Gardens B&B is the perfect place for a personal wellness retreat, offering space to maximize relaxation, optimize self-care, enjoy transformational spa treatments, and savor delicious teas and treats. Finally, Whaleshead Resort features fabulous ocean views, is ideal for family fun, and makes an excellent base camp for adventures.

WildSpring Guest Habitat

Our stay at WildSpring Guest Habitat in Port Orford was a luxurious retreat. Nestled along the Oregon Coast, the resort offered a comfortable escape into pristine wilderness, quiet serenity, and stunning ocean views. Our semi-secluded cabin, shaded by towering trees, was a private oasis, ensuring tranquility for both of us. The Guest Hall, spa, and gorgeous ocean view were just a short, leisurely walk from our cozy cottage.

Barenton Cabin

Steve and I stayed in the Barenton cabin, a wonderfully romantic place with a queen-sized bed, a small refrigerator, an LED TV/DVD for movies, and a Sony CD/iPod stereo for our favorite music. The radiant-heated floors kept my toes warm during my late-night trip for a glass of water, and the high-end Simmons mattress provided comfort and support, affording us a refreshing night’s sleep and leaving us feeling energized each morning.

The living room in our abode, filled with antique and vintage furniture and cozy overstuffed loveseats, provided the quintessential place to cuddle up, enjoy a glass of wine or two, and read a book. The Wi-Fi and cell phone service was excellent when needed for work.

The Guest Hall

Only a two-minute walk from all the cabins, the Guest Hall featured floor-to-ceiling windows, oversized chairs, teak tables, a massive deck, a full-size kitchen, and beautiful ocean views. Steve and I met other guests inside this communal space, and then we spent a few hours on the deck listening to the thunderous roar of the waves crashing on the beach and watching the nearby tree branches sway in the breeze while sipping on chilled white wine.

The Guest Hall was unlocked and open to guests 24 hours a day. Coffee, tea, popcorn, and chocolate were always available, and each morning, an assortment of breakfast items was available: hot chocolate, coffee, teas, juices, breads, cereals, cottage cheese, yogurt, and hardboiled eggs.

Exciting Property Elements

The open-air slate jetted hot tub offered one of the best ocean views from the property. The hot tub is open from Memorial Day weekend through September from 9 AM to 11 PM and from October through Memorial Day from 3 PM to 10 PM. Guests can book specific hours for private-use appointments while the remaining hours are open for communal use.

The wooded area at WildSpring Habitat was an exceptional space for forest bathing (shinrin-yoku in Japanese). This practice involves engaging with nature through all your senses; it is a fabulous way to improve physical and mental health. We wandered through the forest, breathing in the pine-scented air, tasting the ocean’s saltiness that blew in the breeze, listening to the birds chirping and animals scattering about, touching the different plants that ranged from soft and supple to frigid and sharp, and looking at the rays of sunlight illuminating the forest floor.

Wandering the grounds, we discovered numerous hidden sculptures and others in plain sight.

The artwork varied; several pieces were realistic, like the rearing stallion or the dolphin, while others were more whimsical, like the kettle woman who looked like she came from a children’s fantasy novel or an animated movie.

The walking labyrinth near Mary’s Grove was incredible for reflection, meditation, and prayer. Steve and I meandered around it, turning 180 degrees each time we entered a different circuit.

Endicott Gardens B&B is a Gorgeous Oregon Coast Hotel

Our next stop was the Italian-style agriturismo Endicott Gardens. Steve and I entered the secured gate and marveled at the one-acre grounds. Owners Wes and Kim produce organic, botanical skin and body care products and offer upscale, comfortable accommodations, delicious breakfasts, and everything you could want for a relaxing wellness retreat.

The Owners

Wes and Kim were a delight from the moment we met. When we arrived, Wes offered us a refreshing mocktail with tasty cookies. After dropping our bags in our suite, Wes took us for a property tour. We met Kim in the main house’s dining room and learned about their love for people, gardening, and travel. The two once owned another bed and breakfast in Italy and love to meet new people, share adventures, and savor exceptional food.

Steve and I spent hours chatting with Wes and Kim during our two-day stay. I now have an ongoing relationship with Kim through phone calls and texts and by regularly purchasing some of her fantastic tinctures, salts, and teas. The couple is genuine, and they work relentlessly to ensure meticulously clean and beautiful accommodations, excellent hospitality, and incredible organic breakfasts.

Our Room at this Fabulous Oregon Coast Hotel

We stayed in the popular spa suite, Suite Serene Guest House. This private guest house, decorated in various shades of blue and big splashes of white, featured a private entrance, a magnificent king-sized bed with sumptuous pillows, and a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. This spacious room had a dining table, cozy loveseat, and a private outdoor area with a bistro table and chairs.

My favorite part of the suite was the bathroom, which had a 5-foot mermaid soaking tub and a walk-in shower. Kim made me a bottle of specially crafted bath salts using scents that I enjoy most. I luxuriated in a relaxing bath at night and in the morning.

The Grounds

The spectacular garden setting, filled with flowering trees, gorgeous blooms, herbs, and greenhouses, is the foundation of this Gold Beach bed and breakfast, and its beauty accentuates the interior luxury amenities found at any five-star boutique hotel.

Breakfast at Endicott Gardens

Kim is an exceptional chef. Breakfast comes in multiple courses, and when there are vacancies at the B&B, locals are welcome to pay and join the culinary journey. Kim’s farm-to-table breakfast is legendary in the area and crafted with organic produce and dazzling colorful botanicals. Her daily garden harvest inspires each of her breakfasts. We dined with two local ladies, who often attended teas at K Cheri Spa. The ladies both raved about Kim’s botanical products. They told stories of how her tinctures, teas, salts, and other products healed different ailments.

Our breakfast began with a tasty mixed juice and steaming hot coffee. It was followed by an English muffin topped with guacamole and flower petals, a bowl of yogurt with pistachios, and fresh fruit. Next was a bowl with half a ruby-red grapefruit adorned with fresh mint.

The third course was a decadent stack of large julienned sweet potatoes topped with melted cheese and basil chiffonade. For the finale, Belgian waffle sections sprinkled with powdered sugar and crispy bacon stole the show. Everything was delicious, Instagram-worthy, and perfectly cooked and presented.

K Cheri Spa

K Cheri Spa, a botanical health and wellness spa retreat, is on the property. Although the spa is open to the public, bed and breakfast guests can schedule organic facials, reflexology, and body treatments and sign up for Kim’s tea parties, workshops, and classes. Kim says, “My 30-year approach to spa and wellness is rooted in a philosophy of balance, deep healing, and the botanical whispers of the garden…breathe it in and relax…”

Kim offers numerous services and products at K Cheri Spa: botanical facials, apothecary, custom-made fresh skincare products, anti-aging treatments, aromatherapy, reflexology, and body treatments. Classes and workshops include herb walks, herbal wellness, and personal consultations. Call and ask about dates and pricing.

Several times a year, Kim offers formal afternoon tea events, but as a guest at Endicott Gardens, you can try one of more than 30 tea blends created from her abundant gardens.

Whaleshead Beach Resort

Whaleshead Beach Resort, located in Oregon’s southernmost coastal city, Brookings, is ideal for active adventurers. The temperate year-round climate, celebrated landmarks, and magnificent coastline are just a few of the countless reasons Whaleshead Beach is a fabulous place to visit.

The resort, comprised of warm and welcoming cabins, is perfect for couples, families, and small groups. The cabins, some with sea views and others with mountain or forest landscapes, rest on the hillside above the beautifully rugged Southern Oregon coastline, providing guests and tenants with a reprieve from the windy northern beaches and crowds from the southern beaches.

Our Cabin—OV-9A

Steve and I stayed high up on the hillside in a modest, two-person cabin with an ocean view. The home featured cable TV, a coffee maker, a toaster, cookware, and utensils. The small-scale kitchen was neat and tidy, with plenty of room to prepare meals for a day or a week.

A narrow deck with chairs led into the house, opening into the living room with a wide-scale sea view. A comfortable couch, table, and chairs provided plenty of seating for us to relax and enjoy the scenery.

The modest bathroom had all the necessary amenities, and the single bedroom boasted a queen-sized bed with comfortable bedding and pillows. The large closet accommodated our suitcases, clothes, and other travel items and was the access route to the cabin’s best part, the main deck.

This deck covered the front and side of the cabin and was home to the hot tub. After a long day of fun, adventure, and travel, Steve and I were ready to spend time in “the bath.” We donned our swimsuits and grabbed a couple of plastic cups and a bottle of wine. Hot tubs are about relaxing and being comfortable. The water temperature, somewhere between 100℉ and 104℉, was delightful that evening as there was a chill in the air. After climbing in, we sunk deep into the water until only our heads were above the surface.

We entered the tub just before sunset. As we let the calming effects of the hot water release the day’s stresses, the sun began to cast long shadows on the ground. Soon, the sky became luminous, and bright rays of light turned to warm hues of orange and red as the sun dipped below the horizon. We left the house lights off, and soon, the silvery crescent moon shone against the dark sky, and a blanket of stars appeared that seemed to reach infinity. The night was quiet as we stared at the scene before us and finished our wine before returning to the cabin.

Stephanie’s at Whaleshead Resort

Although we cooked in our cabin, the on-site restaurant, Stephanie’s at Whaleshead, has complimentary reviews. It is open Wednesday through Sunday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offers incredible ocean views and American classics.

Whaleshead Resort Services

Rangers in the area offer native plant and animal tours. During berry season, guests can forage for wild strawberries and huckleberries while savoring the stunning views of the long beach.

This unique and peaceful resort area is known for some of the most exhilarating and stunning hiking on the Oregon Coast. Nearby, there are six miles of hiking trails to explore, and adventurers can attempt to catch a glimpse of the local deer, birds, seals, and other wildlife.

This area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to sea kayaking, horseback riding, river and ocean fishing, and more. Whaleshead Resort offers something for everyone with its eclectic lodging on the Oregon Coast.
