The most well-known cat with wine meme is Stepan the Cat. You may have seen him with sunglasses superimposed onto his cute, furry little face. In this meme, the famous Stepan, a tabby cat, has his elbow on the counter, contemplating a glass of red wine.
Stepan hails from Kharkiv, Ukraine, and his owner started posting videos of him on TikTok in 2020, rapidly racking up millions of views. The cat went viral in 2021, with a video of the puss sitting on a table looking at a pizza. Following this was a hilarious stream of videos of Stepan with various food and drink items, including the now-celebrated glass of red wine.
Stepan has a huge following on TikTok and Insta, with Britney Spears recently sharing one of his videos on the latter platform. Following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, fans became concerned for Stepan and his human’s safety due to the shelling of Kharkiv. As of mid-March 2022, the pair had made it to safety in France, and by September of the same year, Stepan’s Instagram page had helped to raise nearly 15,000€ ($16,059) in humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

He’s become so well known that he’s even appeared on several talk shows in the US. Lil Bub’s Insta page helps raise money for special needs pets.
Grumpy Cat has a similar follower count and is the pointy feline face behind a huge number of memes. Even though Grumpy Cat (real name Tartar Sauce) looks like he’s chewing a wasp, his owner insists he’s a very happy boy.
But Nala holds the current record for Insta followers as a cat, with a total of over 4.5 million. Nala’s fame has grown so huge that her owner has launched a line of cat food featuring the world-famous puss.
