Amento Martlett Hiking Sandal Review: Lightweight Comfort for Travel and Trails

Wander With Wonder – Discovering Wow Moments Around the World or Across the Street

Discover why the Amento Martlett hiking sandal stands out for lightweight comfort, support, traction, and travel versatility.

There’s a fine line between a sandal that looks ready for adventure and one that actually performs when the miles add up. Too often, hiking sandals sacrifice comfort for ruggedness or feel bulky and overbuilt for travelers who want versatility without hauling heavy footwear through airports, cruise terminals, and long sightseeing days.

The Amento Women’s Martlett Hiking Sandal manages to strike a surprisingly balanced middle ground. Lightweight yet supportive, stylish yet trail-capable, these sandals quickly became a go-to option for everything from casual walks to summer hikes and travel days where comfort matters most.

First Impressions of the Amento Martlett Hiking Sandal

The first thing I noticed when slipping on the Martlett sandals was how incredibly lightweight they felt. Unlike many traditional hiking sandals that can feel stiff or heavy, these immediately felt flexible and easy to wear while still offering real structure and support.

I tested the merlot color, which adds a fun splash of color without being overly bold. It’s a great shade for summer travel and outdoor adventures, pairing just as easily with hiking attire as casual travel outfits.

Visually, the sandals have a modern, streamlined profile that feels less bulky than many classic adventure sandals. They look sporty without crossing into overly technical territory.

Comfort and Support That Stands Out

Comfort is where these sandals truly impressed me.

I deal with ongoing foot challenges, including Achilles tendon issues and a bunion, so footwear comfort is never optional for me. If a shoe rubs in the wrong place or lacks support, I know immediately. The Martlett sandals performed exceptionally well in this area.

The heel straps felt supportive without digging into sensitive areas, while the adjustable webbing helped distribute pressure evenly across my foot.

The Fast Twist Closure System (FCTS) dial was especially helpful because it allowed me to fine-tune the fit quickly and easily throughout the day.

Rather than constantly stopping to readjust Velcro straps, I could simply tighten or loosen the fit with the dial until everything felt secure and comfortable.

The cushioned EVA topsole, paired with the KenFoam midsole, created a soft yet stable ride underfoot. These sandals have enough cushioning for long walking days while still maintaining a responsive feel that worked well on uneven surfaces.

The carbon fiber shank adds another layer of stability that many lightweight sandals simply do not offer. That extra support became especially noticeable on rocky or uneven terrain.

Performance on Trails and Uneven Terrain

While I would classify the Martlett as more of a light hiking and travel sandal than an extreme backcountry sandal, it handled trails and uneven surfaces confidently.

The co-molded rubber outsole provided reliable traction on gravel, dirt paths, and uneven ground. I appreciated that the outsole gripped well without feeling overly stiff or clunky during everyday walking.

Because the sandals dry quickly and use recycled PET webbing, they also work well for travel in wet conditions, summer storms, or humid conditions. And they even float, so if you’re in the water and lose a shoe, they’ll be right there on the surface!

The lightweight design makes them especially appealing to travelers who want to pack efficiently without sacrificing comfort or functionality.

A Smart Travel Sandal

One of the strongest features of the Martlett is its versatility.

These are sandals I could comfortably wear on a sightseeing day, a casual dinner, a waterfront walk, or a light hiking excursion without feeling underdressed or overequipped. That flexibility is valuable when packing space is limited.

Many rugged hiking sandals feel too bulky for everyday travel. The Martlett delivers real support and traction while maintaining a lighter, more streamlined feel.

For travelers who want a sandal that can handle multiple environments without bringing several pairs of shoes, this is an excellent option. If you don’t like the bright pink, there are other color options available, including black and orange/gray for women and high blue, black, grey, and orange/black for men.

Final Thoughts on the Amento Martlett Hiking Sandal

The Amento Women’s Martlett Hiking Sandal delivers an impressive combination of comfort, adjustability, support, and lightweight versatility.

For me, the standout feature was how comfortable they remained despite my ongoing foot issues. The supportive heel design, cushioned midsole, adjustable FCTS dial system, and stable underfoot construction made these sandals easy to wear for extended periods without discomfort.

They also avoid the overly heavy feel that can make some hiking sandals cumbersome for travel.

If you want a sandal that can move comfortably between trails, travel days, and everyday summer adventures, the Martlett is well worth considering.
