Travelling by Train

This is the cheapest way to travel to Sigiriya but also the most time-consuming. The closest train station to Sigiriya is in Habarana with only one train making the journey from the Fort Railway Station in Colombo. Once you get off in Habarana, you can take a bus straight to Sigiriya.

Taking the Bus

The journey by bus is around 4 hours given that there’s no direct route to Sigiriya. But there are several buses you can take from Pettah, Colombo:

Bus 15 to Anuradhapura
Bus 48 to Kaduruwela
Bus 49 to Trincomalee

You can get down at Dambulla or Habarana and then take a direct bus to Sigirya from there.

The Journey by Car

Travelling by car is the easiest option as you can use it to reach your Sigiriya hotel directly. You’ll need to take the A01 (the Kandy Road) until you reach Ambepussa; then turn off towards Kurunegala via the A06 and stay on the route till you reach Sigiriya where hotels like Sigiriya Jungles Sri Lanka await.

Organise a Flight

For a different experience, you can take a domestic flight from the Katunayaka airport to the Air Force strip in Sigirya. The journey will take you all of 30 minutes during which you can enjoy scenic views below you.
