Walking into the Nordic Hotel Forum in Tallinn, Estonia, was breathtaking. The cavernous lobby was a study in modern design. From beautifully curated art to luxurious yet functional furnishings to perfectly focused lighting, it was a feast for our eyes.

Check-in Please

Our check-in went quickly. The smiling receptionist made quick work of the process. After learning where the bar and restaurant were and where our breakfast would be served, we were handed our keys and directed to the elevator. We were off to our room on the 8th floor.

Our 8th Floor Retreat

Our Double Deluxe room at Nordic was a sumptuous retreat. We opened the door and were charmed by the warm parquet floors. We were greeted by a spacious and elegantly designed room with modern furnishings and a warm ambiance as we stepped inside. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered dazzling views of Old Tallinn and the Baltic Sea beyond. We stood at the window for a few minutes, taking in the vista and watching the ferries on their way to and from Helsinki, Finland, 50 miles away.

The room was well-appointed, with work, relaxation, and sleep furnishings. The bed was the star of the suite. The king-sized, four-poster begged you to jump in. Mary’s four extra pillows, requested when booking the room, were in place and encased in linens with a thread count so high it felt like silk.

The bed sheets were the same—heavenly. The mattress was exactly the right firmness for two big Americans, and the mattress comforter made it feel like we were sleeping on a cloud. We discussed staying in bed for two days but decided we needed to explore the rest of the hotel.

The en-suite bathroom was a mini-spa. Every detail was carefully thought out to ensure a comfortable and indulgent stay. It was the perfect sanctuary to unwind after a day of exploration in the heart of Tallinn.

The bathroom was well-designed, with a soaking tub, shower, and sink arranged so that two people could use the bath area comfortably without bumping into each other. A separate room for the toilet, bidet, and a small sink provided much-appreciated privacy.

Towels, robes, and slippers were all oversized. Again, this was a treat for big Americans—a robe that fit and slippers that covered our entire foot, not to mention fluffy soft towels that wrapped around us easily. Additionally, the bathroom was stocked with a lovely selection of toiletries, including single-use sizes and shower dispensers.

Delightful Extras

Nordic Forum provided many extra touches. One of our favorites was the hospitality/beverage center. Stashed in our mini-fridge were complimentary ice-cold juice and water. The tea and coffee provided were popular brands that we enjoyed. The hot water kettle was fast and spotless. We didn’t use the coffee maker; it was a Lavazza brand used in many high-end European coffee shops. There were water glasses, wine glasses, and coffee cups made of glass—yay, no styrofoam.

Another excellent design feature was the plentiful electric and USB plugs at the desk and nightstands. We could simultaneously charge phones, laptops, and batteries without unplugging lamps, coffee makers, or other essential equipment. The workspace was spacious, with plenty of room for two laptops and phones.

The NoHo Bar and Restaurant at Nordic offers a wonderful culinary experience. The restaurant’s menu showcases the best of Baltic and Nordic cuisine, each with a modern twist. Savor delicious dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients while enjoying the elegant and cozy ambiance.

Happy Hour Anyone?

Each evening, we had shrimp tempura with our happy-hour glass of Italian prosecco. The shrimp was tender and juicy inside, with a lovely crunchy tempura batter on the outside. The tangy, sweet sesame and yuzu elixir dipping sauce was perfect for the shrimp.

The bar is perfect for unwinding and enjoying a wide selection of cocktails, wines, and spirits. Whether for a romantic dinner or a casual drink with friends, the bar and restaurant provide a memorable atmosphere, exceptional service, delicious food, and lovely libations.

International Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the Nomel Restaurant. We wanted to eat breakfast for every meal. The breakfast buffet at Nordic Hotel Forum has a delightful spread of fresh pastries, fruits, cereals, and hot dishes. From traditional Nordic specialties to international favorites, there is something to satisfy every palate. We loved the fresh-squeezed juices and made-to-order eggs. Trying traditional Nordic breakfast foods like pickled herring and mixed-grain porridge was an adventure for bacon and eggs Americans.

Special Buzz—The honey served at breakfast is from Nordic’s apiary on the roof. The bees pollinate urban gardens and parks surrounding the hotel. Their honey is made from a mixture of flowers, vegetables, fruit, and flowering tree pollens.
